Aan-denken
From the desire not to forget what disappears, I process memories into objects. In this project, I started from the Taxiarchis Micheal cemetery in Rhodes.
A place full of color, detail, and symbolism. What particularly struck me was how much attention the people from the village gave to the artificial flowers in the cemetery.
Unfortunately, in the meantime the municipality has chosen to clear the cemetery. I quickly connected this fact to the clearing of my mother's grave a year ago. That's why I wanted to create objects with the same attention as the villagers gave. In doing so, incorporate photos and crochet patterns. Layer by layer, I engrave the work and fill it with plaster, like an erosion of time.

De begraafplaats
The cemetery of Taxiarchis Michael in Rhodes was a big part of this project. I went there every day to take pictures. It became a place where I was amazed by the use of color and all the attention that the people of the village gave to this place. Unfortunately, the municipality decided that the cemetery should be cleared.

De bloemen
When I heard about the decision to clear the cemetery of Taxiarchis Michael, I quickly connected it with my mother's grave, which had been cleared a year earlier. At that point I started to photograph all the artificial flowers on all the graves. I did this with digital and analog cameras. I felt I had to do something to remember my mother and this unique cemetery.

De objecten
These objects are made of wood and plaster. I incorporated photographs and crochet patterns. Many actions were involved, so each object has its own personality. The plaster was worked mainly by engraving and filling it with plaster afterwards, like a kind of erosion of time.

Het proces
The combination of gypsum and wood is challenging. I had to do a lot of testing and material research to get where I am today. This is perhaps the part of my work I am most proud of.
